METHYLDOPA TABLET 250MG
Indications:
Methyldopa tablets are a central antihypertensive drug. They lower blood pressure by stimulating central α2 receptors to reduce sympathetic nerve activity, thereby decreasing peripheral vascular resistance. They are mainly used for the treatment of hypertension during pregnancy or other types of hypertension.
Contra-indications:
1. It is prohibited for those who are allergic to the drug components.
2. It is not suitable for patients with active liver diseases (such as acute hepatitis), severe depression or mental disorders.
Adverse Effects:
1. Common symptoms: fatigue, headache, dry mouth, constipation, orthostatic hypotension.
2. Rare but serious: hemolytic anemia, liver damage, depression or mental abnormalities. Seek medical attention immediately.
Drug Interactions:
1. Central depressants (such as sedatives and alcohol) may aggravate drowsiness or dizziness.
2. Iron supplements (such as ferrous sulfate) may reduce the absorption of methyldopa, and should be taken at an interval of 2 hours.
3. Other antihypertensive drugs (such as diuretics) may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect, and blood pressure should be monitored.
Precautions & Warning:
1. Liver function monitoring: During medication, regular liver function checks are required. If jaundice or elevated transaminase levels occur, the medication should be stopped immediately.
2. Side effect reminder: It may cause symptoms such as drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid driving or operating machinery during the initial stage of medication use.
3. Pregnancy and lactation: The use during pregnancy should be weighed against the benefits and risks. Lactation should be suspended when using the medication during lactation.

Treatment/antidote in The Event of Overdose:
During the medication period, if you experience yellowing of the skin, darkening of urine color, persistent dizziness or abnormal mood, you should seek medical attention immediately. After your blood pressure stabilizes, you must not stop the medication on your own. Instead, you should gradually reduce the dosage to prevent rebound hypertension.
